Skycycling 101 (Davao City, PH)

The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. – Christopher McCandless

During my 1st Davao visit, I did climb Mount Apo. Then, my next visit made me try out white water rafting along the Davao River. And so during my 3rd visit, the adventure junkie in me was yearning to try another thrilling activity in the largest city in Asia. Since riding a zip line is no longer that adrenaline whipping to me, I opted to try out biking. I’m not talking about the usual cycling that would just require you to pedal your way to wherever you would want to go. Instead, this form of cycling is done with you and your bicycle suspended at an elevation of 60-feet. Yes, you read that right!

The activity is called skycycling and this cable adventure was 1st introduced in Eden Nature Park – Davao. (Today, one may experience this in Caliraya Laguna and in Campuestuhan Bacolod).

And so, before I went skimboarding in Mati (Davao Oriental), my Davao-based friend accompanied me to Eden Park and try out this sky adventure. During our 30 – 45 minutes “habal-habal” ride, I cannot contain my excitement. Imagine, you will be pedaling your way on a wire, on a thin wire. Dope isn’t it!? Just like a zipline, the bicycles are tethered to a wire and have special wheels that “hug” the steel cables.

How much does it cost to do the skycycle? The ride costs Php 200 (USD 4.50) per person, however, you get a small discount if you do it together with the SkyRider – PHP 300 for both (USD 6.70). (So, to cut the story short, I did avail of the latter one – adventure junkie here!)

The original plan was that both of us (my friend and I) will do the skycycle. However, when everything was already set, he realized he hasn’t gotten over his fear of heights. So, I ended up having his tickets. Yehey! Haha..

Well, at first, my knees were also trembling and I could even hear my heart palpitating. But once my bicycle was release, all I did was to continuously pedal my way to the other end. The mid-part was pretty shaky plus the wind was gently blowing adding up thrill to my ride. The experience was indescribable, it was a great one! This is by far my best cable-adventure experience.
