Fortune Island, an island off the coast of Nasugbu in Batangas, was once a luxury island resort owned by a prominent family (The Leviste) that is now abandoned and owned by a Korean. Despite the abandonment, the island’s unique natural charm plus some run-down man-made structures has captured the attention of beach bummers and adventure junkies.

The island’s major attractions include the ruins of Grecian pillars that looks like a replica of the Parthenon. Apart from these picturesque, aging columns, there are also ruined statues, a helipad and a very inviting natural pool ideal for cliff jumping. The place is really photogenic! And if you are lucky and no storm is in the brew, both the sunrise and sunset are visible atop the pillars’ area.

My friends and I spent an overnight stay in the island to maximize our weekend. Despite the gloomy weather, (and the overly priced entrance fees and boat rentals) we enjoyed the place and each other’s company. We spent our time taking lots of photographs, swimming and just roaming around the area.

How To Get Here:

Bus from Manila to Nasugbu, Batangas Go to the Coastal Mall Provincial Bus Terminal in Parañaque City. There are several bus lines there, both ordinary and air-conditioned buses that travel to Calatagan, Batangas. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Nasugbu Town proper. The travel time is 2 – 3 hours.

Once in Nasugbu, hail a tricycle that will bring you to Barangay Bucana. It will only take around 10 minutes. Then, off you go with the boat ride. It is said that the waves at this side of Batangas can be perilous. The travel time via boat is 1 hour depending on the waves.

If you are planning to stay overnight on Fortune Island, your only option is to bring tents and to set up camp. There are no food stalls nor water supplies so make sure to bring all the things you need. Signal is also patchy so it’s best to inform your loved ones where you are.
