Major Landmarks to Visit in Abu Dhabi ðŸ‡¦ðŸ‡ª

Written by:

United Arab Emirates — I was able to visit Abu Dhabi on two occasions. First was in 2017, where in I visited my friends who work in the United Arab Emirates. (Hi Hazel, Elaine and Pat). These friends brought me to some of the city’s major landmarks. The second time I was in the city was in 2018 and it was a quick layover, before flying out to Switzerland. I had a few hours to spend so I went to see the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Here’s a quick rundown of some very notable landmarks in UAE’s capital.

Abu Dhabi’s tourism slogan, ‘One Summer Isn’t Enough’ is such a catchphrase that will make someone enticed to explore this city’s surprisingly countless wonders! From their sun-kissed beaches to their rich and mesmerizing cultural traditions and attractions, to the world-class shopping and dining experiences, every moment is indeed a great way to make unforgettable mementos.

Abu Dhabi is luxury, fun, and history roller into one. So, prepare yourself for a unique adventure like no other – because as the Emiratis say “once you’ve experienced the magic of Abu Dhabi, you’ll be counting the days until your return”.

Here are the major landmarks I got to see during those times I got to visit Abu Dhabi.

Etihad Towers

View from the Etihad Tower’s observation deck

The Etihad Towers is a complex of buildings with five towers. It occupies an amazing location on the southern end of the Abu Dhabi Corniche. On the Etihad Tower 2’s 74th floor is the “Observation Deck at 300” – a cafe and a vantage point which offers some of the city’s best views.

The Etihad Towers is a great place for shopping. The Avenue at Etihad Towers is home to some of the world’s most luxurious and exclusive boutique stores, most of which boasts private rooms for VIP shopping.

Emirates Palace

Located on a pristine private beach area, Emirates Palace Mand arin Oriental is the epitome of luxury in Abu Dhabi. It showcases Arabian hospitality at its finest. One could enter the premises for a visit for free but of course only specific areas can be accessed unless one has checked in the resort.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is colossal place of worship and is one the world’s largest mosques that can accommodate about 40000 visitors. It is such a stunning architectural work of art that blends different Islamic architectural schools.

It is the largest mosque in the UAE and third largest in the world. It features 82 domes, more than 1,000 columns, 24-carat-gold gilded chandeliers and the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet. Truly spectacular!

The Louvre Abu Dhabi

The Louvre Abu Dhabi is an art museum located on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. It runs under an agreement between the UAE and France, and has been described by the Louvre as “France’s largest cultural project abroad.

Once inside the museum, one would instantly notice the collaboration between two cultures from the dazzling architecture that combines French design with Arabic heritage. Indeed, Louvre Abu Dhabi champions cultural achievements from prehistory to the present day. And I was so happy when I got to visit it because that means I have already seen both Louvre museums (saw Louvre Paris back in 2017. Yay!

Posting also this beautiful and intricate centerpiece at the Abu Dhabi airport that also captured my attention!
