Story Candle PH: A Smell with a Story to Tell

Mark Lester , the chandler behind Story Candles

Story Candle PH, a small home-based business in the cool, pine-scented mountains of Baguio City, is more than just a purveyor of fine home fragrances; it is a testament to resilience and the profound power of scent.

With the compelling tagline, “A smell with a STORY to tell,” the brand crafts exquisite soy candles, as well as reed and hanging diffusers, transforming memories and emotions into immersive olfactory experiences. These handcrafted items serve as perfect gifts, souvenirs, event giveaways, or tools for aromatherapy, and can be shipped nationwide for anyone looking to bring a piece of Baguio’s creative spirit into their homes.

The creative force behind Story Candle PH is Mark, a pharmacist by profession, and a travel and photography enthusiast. Mark’s life and career path took an unexpected and challenging turn when he was diagnosed with a vision-impairing condition that made continuing his profession impossible. Instead of succumbing to this setback, Mark channeled his energy, knowledge, and passion into a new venture: candle-making. This pivot was not merely a change in occupation; it was a profound transformation of adversity into opportunity.

Drawing on his extensive background in pharmacognosy and phytochemistry, Mark approaches his craft with both a scientist’s precision and an artist’s sensitivity. This unique blend of skills ensures that every product is carefully formulated for a clean, consistent burn and a captivating, layered fragrance.

The heart of the brand lies in its commitment to storytelling. Mark names each product after his favorite travel destinations, meticulously curating a fragrance that embodies the essence and atmosphere of that locale. For Mark, every scent is more than just a mix of notes; it is a memory encapsulated in wax. The entire collection is inspired by places he has visited, turning familiar landscapes and cherished moments into evocative sensory journeys.

The distinct collection includes scents like Baguio Breeze, which captures the mountain air with notes of pine needles and bamboo, and Sagada Brew, which blends the rich aromas of orange and coffee. International inspirations include Barcelona Day of Poem and Roses, a sophisticated mix of red roses, pink musk, and lychee, and the tropical escape of Siargao Waves, featuring coconut, lime, and bamboo. These are just four of the over 20 scented candles he has crafted so far.

Through his work at Story Candle PH, Mark has truly redefined storytelling, using scent as his personal language to preserve and share memories, one beautifully crafted product at a time.
