Aromatherapy and My Chandler Journey for Story Soy Candles

Aromatherapy is a term that describes the use of essential oils from plnts for healing. While the word “aroma” primarily connotes something one has to smell, or as if the oils are inhaled, it could also mean that such material  can be massaged into the skin, or rarely, taken by mouth. But in this context where the object of discussion are scented candles, aromatherapy means inhaling the aromatic component of the candle.

So the question is – what benefits could be derived from using scented candles? Scented candles specially those that make use of natural waxes like soil coconut palm and even beeswax that contain fragrance oils may offer certain benefits.

Depending on the essential oil present or contained in the scented candle, they generally stimulate our limbic system, the part of the brain that is home to our memory and emotions. Hormones like serotonin and dopamine can be produced to help regulate mood. Therefore, our emotional state is influenced by the relationship that exists between scents, memories, and emotions.

Moreover, they play a vital role in the reduction of stress and anxiety  to some individuals where in such oils can stimulate the release of feel good endorphins.

These are some of the very reason why i have come to love scented candles and led me to create my own line of soy palm scented candles.

How did I get started in the scented candle business, and what inspired me to pursue this venture?

When I resigned from my full time work two years ago due to  a medical condition that has greatly affected my vision, I was left with nothing much to do but depression and hopeless feelings. I am currently half blind because of this condition. Because of this, everything that i do has been limited. I cannot work full time i cannot do the things i could previously do. I had to stay at home without doing anything.

I have always been fascinated with scents since my university years being a pharmacy major. We actually studied fragrances and their chemistry before so i have had knowledge back then. I knew i have always wanted to venture into a passion related to scents and fragrances but i had to put it at bay because i had to work in my actual field of study and was so pre-occupied with traveling. But through the years i have been an avid candle collector. So when the time came that I became “disabled’, and i was limited to doing things — the thought of crafting candles came about. So in short, my current disability led me to ignite my desire to do something else and that is to craft my own scented candles.

By the way it is called Story candles for two reasons. One, Story is the name of one of my dogs whom i love so much, and two, because every scent that we smell has a story to tell.

In order to release the aroma of these scented candles, one may light them up or warm them using a candle warmer. A lit candle may prompt us to reminisce good old days as some smell can trigger emotions and memories. They tend to remind us of stories about our life and experiences.

Story Candle is named after one of my dogs, Story — which intern are an account of imaginary or real people and events we tell or share.

Story Scented Candles are soy wax and palm wax, 2-wick (made of cotton strands) candles infused with a blend of meticulously chosen fragrance oils. They are made in small batches and are hand-poured into a 320ml clear candle jar with a rose gold lid cover. Each product has an approximate weight of 300 grams.

The candles are named after Philippine local destinations and foreign places I have visited. Places that people would love to experience and create beautiful memories with the aroma in each candle hoping to remind us of beautiful stories.

Currently i have crafted already around 18 different blended scents. Here is a list of  the day available Story Candle PH soy – palm scented candles and their fragrance notes.

*Baguio breeze – notes of fresh bamboo, pine, cypress, eucalyptus, cedar, and musk

*Elyu sunset – notes of lemongrass, green tea, cotton flower, bergamot and sea moss
