I love eating pork chicharon but let’s admit that there is always that guilty feeling whenever we indulge on it. As palatine-satisfying as chicharon is, we know it’s not good for our health. Nowadays however, healthier alternatives are already available in the market in the form of mushroom chicharon that tastes like real chicharon only better and healthier.
So level up your snacking game! Here are 3 crispy and crunchy mushroom snacks that you’ll surely enjoy munching.
SNAK YARD – Shiitake Mushroom
Snak Yard Shiitake Mushroom: I have cone to know that these organic snacks were cooked at low temperature as a way of enhancing their natural flavors. (My brother once told me that low-temperature cooking is known to bring out the best flavors in vegetables).

Looked into the list and it seems that they’re made without any artificial ingredients. These are the ingredients as per label:
Organic Shiitake mushroom, organic palm oil, organic rice malt syrup, seasoning (sea salt, yeast extract, spices, natural flavor).

As a mushroom lover, this is a 10/10 foe me. With a crispier take and a crunchier make plus the fact that they’re perfectly seasoned, this is definitely a snack I could eat anytime of the day.

Some quick facts about shiitake mushrooms: Scientifically called Lentinus edodes, shiitake is an edible mushroom that contains a polysaccharide, lentinan and other beta-glucans. These compounds protect against cell damage, help your immune system, and boost white blood cell production for fighting off microbes.
MUSHROOM LAB – Oyster Mushroom Chicharon
Mushroom Lab’s Mushroom Chicharon. This local snack does not only cone with the regular mushroom chicharon but in various flavors. Thus, it is more appealing to non-mushroom eaters. Thanks to its improved taste and texture.

This snack makes use of oyster mushrooms or hiratake mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus). Just like most edible shrooms, they have a lot of health benefits to our body. These oyster mushrooms provide the body with healthy substances from dietary fibers to carbohydrates that provide support for the immune system (very much like the shiitake mushrooms I described above).

Mushroom Lab offers the following flavors: original (which I think is plain salted), Hot and Spicy, Garlic Parmesan, Sour Cream, Salted Egg, Barbecue and more.

Sunakku Mushroom Cracklings
Another vegan chips made from dried mushrooms that is perfect for plant-based diets is Sunakku Mushroom cracklings. This snack is available at The Farm by San Benito. And upon googling, one can also get this online in platforms like Shopee.

Made from Shiitake Mushrooms with a light, nicely flavored taste, this snack looks like the quintessential pork chicharon with that ASRM crackling sound when you munch on it. Other ingredients include tapioca starch, vegetarian mushroom seasoning, salt, and coconut oil.

These snacks are truly rewarding to one’s taste buds. So if you are kind of looking for a healthy option to the sinful classic pork chicharon that is equally delicious to the palate and a satisfying snack rolled into one, check out these mushroom snacks that are guilt-free goodness.
I had some shiitake ones. It was lovely!

“Crispier take, crunchier make” sounds like an awesome tagline! Love mushrooms too; will look out for these the next time I’m in the Philippines.
