Go Back in Time at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar (Bataan 🇵🇭)

“Preserve cultural heritage, it defines the national identity of a country”.

Las Casas Sunset

Bagac, Bataan – The very first thing that comes to my mind each time I hear or think of the province of Bataan is the historical “Death March”. Well at least that’s what I’ve pretty much remember from my Civics and Culture classes back then. However, the past years and the ever changing times paved way for the construction of a historical -cultural hub, convention center, and resort rolled into one, in this province – a place where preserved old Spanish houses were built. This is Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar.

Spain feels. Made me reminisce my Madrid and Toledo trips in 2018.

I love historical structures and a visit at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar located at Brgy. Ibaba, Bagac Bataan, is auch an eye-gasmic experience for me.

A member of Historic Hotels Worldwide since 2017, this splendid and vast resort
along Bagac Bay in Bataan is a marvelous historic resort. It is home to almost 40 original Spanish-Filipino Colonial structures (mostly houses to structures turned into cafe-restaurants) and even a church and some cobblestone walkways), history buff will find this place a gem.

This is one of the ultimate visions of Jose Rizalino Acuzar, a business executive and housing czar who is the brain child of Las Casas. He is the on responsible in the collection, transplantation, and the restoration of rhe various structures that depict Philippines heritage at this side of Bataan. The resort’s collection of colonial buildings were carefully scrutinized and chosen for the authenticity of their cultural, historical, and architectural features which comes in a wide array of style from mansions to wooden stilt houses.

There’s something I love about doors.

The establishment of Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, makes the country’s past come to life. And a visit in Las Casas is like an experience of going back in time. Las Casas features the finest ingenuity and craftsmanship of Filipino creativity turning the entire property’s aesthetics and ambiance distinct .Moreover, the resort is just a short drive away from other cultural attractions in the province like the famous Mount Samat Shrine.

What to do and see at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar: If you think that heritage sights are just about restored ruins, well then you are wrong. A trip to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar will surely bring in a wonderful sense of nostalgia and a handful of fun-filled activities await upon entering the resort gates. Here are some of the many things one can do at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar:

Beautifully restored/constructed buildings (old houses, church).

*Uncover the beauty and the stories behind each “casa” from Casa Biñan to Casa Lubao, Casa Candaba and Casa Unisan, now a repurposed restaurant at Las Casas.

*Join one of Las Casas’ guided heritage tours which fun and insightful. The guides surely have a great knowledge about the history of each “bahay na bato” as they narrate interesting information with gusto. At the end of the tour, a short but sweet monologue awaits.

Cobblestone street and brick walled structures đź’—

*If walking is not to your liking, then a ‘kalesa’ or a horse-drawn carriage ride is something one might want to experience. The sight and sound of these kalesa passing by the cobblestone streets of Las Casas definitely gives that Spanish era vibe.

*Bum by the beach. Wait for the golden hour. Remember, Las Casas is a resort by the Bagac Bay so don’t forget to pack your swimming essentials! Las Casas has quite a really clean, serene and picturesque beach that is lined with Spanish colonial-styled structures, with the lovely Mt. Mariveles as the backdrop. Grab your favorite drinks while you wait for the golden sun to set.

*Eat. Eat. Eat. Las Casas has several food spots within the resort premises. Savor some local cuisines at CafĂ© Miravent or if one fancies authentic Italian dishes, then dine at La Bella Teodora where they serve some fine brick oven pizzas! Aside from a bar at the beach area, it is also worthy to note that a roving mamang sorbetero and his clanging bell sells local fruit-flavored sorbetes or ice cream. They even have a bakery called La Panaderia, where freshly baked bread like pandesal is sold!
