“Puhon” – A Beautiful Reminder to Trust His Process

What’s your favorite word?

“PUHON”

Words are exceptionally the most commanding force presented to people. The use of such is something we do every single day whenever we talk to people, and even to ourselves. We either have the freedom to utilize this power beneficially through words of inspiration, or damagingly using words of desolation.

Words have authority. It can either make or break a person. It has the ability to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to harass, to humiliate and to humble a human being.

The past 14 months made me appreciate even further a local word, a Bisaya word that I have r learned from my Cebuano friends, that is becoming more significant day by day to me and my struggles. This word is ‘puhon’.

“Puhon” ,when said, has a hopeful feeling. The literal English translation is ‘someday’ or ‘in God’s time’. It is when one trusts everything to God’s will and knowing that it will happen in an unpredictable and good timing (just the right time). This beautiful Visayan word exudes hope and trust in the Lord for the things to come, and it’s a word I have to remind myself about everyday.

Patience.  It is something I struggle with the most.  I have been always told that patience is not my strong suit.  If I was working on something that takes a long time, I’d either get frustrated or quit, or lose interest and do something else.  I’d rarely finish something that was time consuming, unless I saw the results right away. I guess commitment is really not my thing, maybe for now.

And I wonder when will be my time with that kind of attitude. As I keep reflecting with myself, I realized that God has something important planned for my life, but truth be told, I’m not ready for it…yet.

God’s timing is always perfect. He’s never early, never late, but always on time. Our timing isn’t God’s timing. For us, God’s timing often feels like a long, desperate delay. APsalm 31:15 says, “My times are in Your hands, deliver me from the hands of my enemies; from those who pursue me.”

At the right time, God will provide your need. At the right time, God will deliver you. At the right time, God will rescue you. His Time, His ways not ours.
