Stockholm – a beautiful city on water. Where modernity meets tranquility. With its vibrant, trend-setting cafes and restaurants; lovely buildings, and idyllic coastline – Stockholm is a feast to the sense of sight.

And in the heart of this Scandinavian city is a very visit-worthy place called Gamla Stan — the gorgeous, colourful old town of Stockholm’s historic area. Gamla Stan boasts off an incredible collection of winding, mostly cibblestone narrow streets, quaint cafes and pastel-colored buildings is enough to get lost in for a full day.

During my first Sweden trip, I found myself happily drawn to the charm of Gamla Stan and gad a great time wandering the area. Important landmarks every visitor should visit include the Nobel Museum which is located at the Stortorget (Main Square of Gamla Stan) and features information about Alfred Nobel and the Nobel Prize.

Then, there’s the beautiful Lutheran cathedral, Storkyrkan, which is also located in the area. When I was there, the church choir was practicing adding upto that lovely experience while exploring the area.

A few meters from the central square is the backyard of the Finnish Church in Gamla stan. In this area, one finds Stockholm’s smallest statue, a sculpture that is only 15 cm high. The sculpture of the Swedish artist Liss Eriksson called “Little boy looking at the moon” or “Järnpojke”, the “Iron Boy”.

Another wonderful landmark that shouldn’t be missed is the Royal Palace, an important feature of Gamla Stan. How I wish though that I knew the time when the changing of the guard ceremony is being shown.

Then there’s the narrowest street in Gamla Stan, called Marten Trotzig’s alley, which measures a tiny 35 inches (approx. 90 cm) at its narrowest point.

But from among the lovely spots in Gamla Stan, I super love the cobblestone alleys lined with brightly colored buildings. So So so beautiful!!
Gamla Stan is without a doubt one of the most remarkable old towns in Europe.
Don’t be a wasted soul, be Juanderlust. Take it easy everyJuan.
Nice photos as always Master Lester!
