And I’m Tallinn You, You’re Gonna Love Me (Estonia πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ͺ)

And I am telling you, I’m not going… (skips other lines, then proceeds with ..) I’m staying, I’m staying, and you, and you
You’re gonna love me. You’re gonna love me….

And so just like this popular Jennifer Holiday song, I am telling you that you’ll absolutely love the Baltic city, Tallinn – Estonia’s stunning capital. And the apple to my eye during a visit in this city is it’s captivating Old Town.

The Old Town of Tallinn is one of the few entirely preserved medieval city centers in Europe. This Eastern European city still has the original 13th century layout so it’s no wonder that it is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997. Old Town Tallinn is made of a lower and upper part showcasing a mix of medieval and Hanseatic architecture.

Upon stepping Into the gates of the old city wall, one would feel like stepping back in the olden days. Just like most old towns, walking through narrow cobblestone streets would lead you through a row of picturesque houses, shops, cafes, and restaurants.

A recommendation I have read that if one desires a beautiful bird’s eye view of the Old Town, one should head up to one of the lookout points in the upper part of the town So that’s what I did and teue enough, it was like a fairytale scene.

If you are a history buff and want to learn more about the Tallinn’s past, go check out the Kiek in de KΓΆk museum. One can also join the “Tallinn in a Nutshell” Walking Tour.

Another staple feature of an old town is its central square. Tallinn has an impressive Town Hallwhich also houses “Ill Draakon”, a medieval tavern where one can enjoy some old-fashioned food and drinks.

Met a former student, Katrijn, and her daughter during my visit to Estonia at the Tallinn central square.

Adding to Tallinn’s charm are the centuries-old architecture, the hidden gems that you discover in every turn while walking through cobblestone walkways. Don’t miss the iconic Toompea Castle, and the Alexander Nevsky cathedral.
