I am a Hopeless Ramen-tic

What’s your go-to comfort food?

Ramen!
That comforting feeling a bowl of ramen brings 🍜. Here’s one from RamNam, my fave eamen place in San Juan, Elyu.

Miso ramen, shoyu, tonkotsu ramen or almost any kind of ramen there is would being comfort to me. The rich pork and chicken broth that simmers the bones so long that the ramen has a layer of fatty collagen on top, the warm feeling it imparts, and the noodles you get to slurp while eyes closed, just feels so different in a very comforting way.

Matcha ramen from Kissako Uji Cafe, one of my all-tine fave cafes in the metro because they serve alot of matcha goodness including their ramen!

As someone living in a pretty cold (and rainy) city like Baguio, a warm bowl of broth, noodles, veggies, and protein after a long day — can help warm up from the inside out. That’s why I have always wished we have more ramen bars in Baguio. Good thing a home-grown ramen house started operating a few years back giving us locals a cheaper but equally delicious options other than commercial ramen restos in the city that are too pricey.

Ramen from Ippudo

Aside from that comforting feeling ramen imparts, ramen bowls are tummy-filling. Unlike other broth-focused soups, ramen is way more filling to me because of all of the ingredients in the bowl. It’s like having a full meal by itself! With noodles, an egg, some meat, and an option of various kinds of vegetables in these bowls, I would usually find myself full for hours after eating a whole bowl of ramen!

A bowl of home-cooked seafood ramen. I didn’t have wheat noodles to I used this egg noodle instead.
Wakame Ramen

Lastly, ramen is definitely a delicious food one can enjoy anytime of the day. While nothing beats authentic ramen, I’m quite happy that we now have ready to cook ramen packs commercially available. So whenever I feel sad and craving for my comfort food, I could just prepare my own in the comfort of my own home, the quick and the easy way.

Baguio’s home-grown ramen house, Agara, is one of my go-to places to eat ramen whenever I need to lift up my spirit.
