Osmeña Peak (Dalaguete, Cebu, PH)

Whenever I go on a climb, I usually join a group or I invite my friends to come with me. To date, I only have one solo hiking experience and that is when I conquered the highest peak of Cebu — Osmeña Peak.

I was on a solo backpacking trip way back 2013 when I decided to do the Osmeña Peak trek. I wasn’t troubled despite the fact that it will be my first solo climb. I have read a lot of information saying it is one of the easiest mountains to climb. So doing it on my own was definitely a dream come true.

The way to the summit starts off with some exciting “habal-habal” (single motorcycle) ride through winding and steep road. Nonetheless it was refreshing seeing verdant foliage in this mountainous side of Cebu.

It was drizzling a bit when I arrived at the jump off. The actual walk to the peak was relatively short and easy but some parts of the trail were a bit slippery due to the precipitation in the area. The trail was at times steep and muddy, hence, it is vital to be cautious or else, one would roll down the deep ravine of the mountain.

While sauntering, your sense of sight will be delighted to see an awesome view of the mountain farmlands. Upon reaching the top, I was very happy to see the picturesque, undulating pinnacle of Cebu’s highest peak. Unlike other mountains I have scaled, the summit of Osmeña Peak is made of manifold rocky hills that make it its unique topographical feature. I always feel overjoyed whenever I reach the mountain top. This time, it was double the feeling since I made it on my own.

How to Get to Osmeña Peak:

From Manila, ride a plane bound for Mactan International Airport in Cebu. Once in Cebu, take a cab to the South Bus Terminal. From there, ride a bus bound for Oslob or Bato. Ask to be dropped off at the Dalaguete junction (3 hours travel time). At the junction, hire a motorcycle (habal-habal) going to the wet market in Mantalongon (20 minutes). Upon reaching Mantolongon, you can either:

Trek to from the market to the peak for about 2 plus hours, or hire another motorcycle going to the foot of the peak for about 15-20 minutes. There is also an option to traverse to Kawasan Falls.

    • Hi, usually from the peak, tinatanong na lang mga locals about the trail. mahirap kasi idescribe ung directions kasi wala naman silang specific name for each area na dadaanan mo. pero the trail naman is established and safe. sensya na ha, di ko masasagot ng completo kasi wala talaga names or landmarks na distinct. nonetheless, may community naman where you can ask locals every now and then.
